Lot 5434 JOE RUNDELL INCISED FULL STOCK FLINT LOCK KENTUCKY

RIFLE. Cal. 50. Rundell fit this contemporary example with a 42" octagon bbl that has intertwined line muzzle engraving forward of the dovetailed brass blade front sight, bracketed "J. RUNDELL" signature at the mid point, dovetailed V-notch rear sight with line engraved accents, & scroll/line tang embellishments. The "RUNDELL" signed flint lock is line border engraved with a sunburst extending from the pan. It is stocked with an incised Roman nose full length stock with pierced floral motif patchbox with sleeping sun, star, scroll & cloud engravings. The push button release for the cover of the patchbox is located on the top of the faceted buttplate tang that is dash border engraved. A silver oval plaque is inset on the raised cheek rest and engraved with a federal eagle. The toeline is capped with a brass toeline plate that is engraved with cloud, starburst, & Egyptian Ankh symbol. The faceted trigger guard is engraved on the bow with a floral panel and starburst accents. CONDITION: Overall very good. The bbl has mottled spots of old oxidation with a fairly even grey patina. Stock is very good with some minor handling marks. Brass has a pleasing aged mustard patina. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of FEGA Master Engraver Joe Rundell.
